A Peter Hook owned and worn pair of limited edition Dr. Martens “Arthur Style” boots custom made and inscribed for Festival No. 6 — gifted to every act performing at the festival that year — from the personal collection of Peter Hook of New Order, who received them as a performer at the event. Size 9 (UK). Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Peter Hook.
Historical Context
New Order are a British rock band formed in Manchester in 1980. Peter Hook (born Peter Woodhead) is a founding member and bass guitarist, widely regarded as one of the most influential bassists in post-punk and electronic music history.
Festival No. 6 was a music and arts festival held annually at Portmeirion, the extraordinary Italianate village on the coast of North Wales designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. The festival took its name from the cult 1960s television series The Prisoner, in which Patrick McGoohan’s character is known only as “Number Six” — the series was filmed almost entirely at Portmeirion. The festival ran from 2012 to 2018 and presented music, arts, literature, and culture against one of the most architecturally distinctive backdrops in the United Kingdom.
As part of their hospitality for performing artists, Festival No. 6 commissioned a bespoke run of Dr. Martens “Arthur Style” boots inscribed with the festival name — gifted as a present to every group who played. Peter Hook received this pair as a New Order performer. The boots are inscribed inside with “FESTIVAL NO6 / MADE IN ENGLAND / SIZE 9 / 1089” in gold lettering on dark green suede.
Stage & Performance Use
These boots were owned and worn by Peter Hook and exhibit heavy wear consistent with regular active use following their receipt as a performer’s gift at Festival No. 6. In his notes accompanying the original Omega Auctions listing, Peter Hook wrote: “A great venue for a festival is Portmeirion… sad it is no more… famous as the base for ‘The Prisoner’ with Patrick McGoohan. A lovely thought. I remember my mate B turning up and my god he was out of it. I said, ‘What happened?’ He said, ‘I’m trying these new acid tabs you put in your eye!’ ‘Fuck off’ I said. I am glad to be sober.”
